Jorge Duany is a prominent scholar and academician from Puerto Rico, known for his contributions to the study of Caribbean migration, diaspora studies, and cultural anthropology. He was born in Havana, Cuba, in 1954, and moved to Puerto Rico at a young age. He earned his bachelor's degree in anthropology from the University of Puerto Rico, and later pursued his graduate studies at the University of California, Berkeley.
Duany has written extensively on issues related to migration, identity, and cultural diversity in the Caribbean region. He is the author of numerous books, including "The Puerto Rican Nation on the Move: Identities on the Island and in the United States", "Blurred Borders: Transnational Migration between the Hispanic Caribbean and the United States", and "Nation and Immigration: The Contours of Long Distance Nationalism". He has also published articles in various academic journals and edited collections, and has been a keynote speaker at several international conferences.
Duany has held academic positions at several institutions, including the University of Puerto Rico, the University of Virginia, and Florida International University, where he currently serves as director of the Cuban Research Institute. He has received numerous accolades for his work, including being elected as a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and being named a Guggenheim fellow.
